Hot Tub Safety is our Top Priority

Hot Tub Safety is our Top Priority! For the most part, hot tubs are very safe. However, Thermo-Spas goes the extra mile when it comes to hot tub safety. We are one of the few manufacturers that exceeds almost every industry safety standard, and we have always maintained a 100% safety record. Some of the additional steps we take to verify the safety of our spa owners include:

  • Three automatic high-limit temperature sensors to protect you and your hot tub. Most other manufacturers offer just one or two sensors.
  • A check valve and a Hartford loop, precautionary equipment that prevent water from backing up into the blower.
  • Exterior control panels so all functions are accommodatingly and safely activated away from the spa’s inner electrical components.
  • Hot Tub Covers that are ASTM approved.
  • Back-up valves that take over and release the suction on any blocked valve. This safeguard virtually eliminates the likelihood of anyone ever getting stuck in the suction of a return valve and drowning in one of our hot tubs.

Even with all of the safety features built into each ThermoSpas hot tub, there are some common-sense safety rules that only you can follow. Please read and remember the following:

Do not use alcohol or drugs while in your hot tub spa.

The use of alcohol, drugs or medications can greatly increase the risk of hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is the adverse of hypothermia, and it occurs when the internal body temperature reaches a level several degrees above normal body temperature 37°C. The manifestations of hyperthermia include dizziness, fainting, drowsiness, lethargy and an increase in the body's internal temperature. If you are on medication, speak with your physician before using a hot tub spa. The effects of hyperthermia may include:

  • Unconsciousness
  • Physical incapacity to exit the spa
  • Failure to recognize impending hazard
  • Inability to recognize the need to exit the spa

Keep the cover closed and locked when the spa is not in use.

This will keep any children from playing in your spa, as well as keeping debris and animals out of your hot tub. You should never leave an open hot tub spa unattended.

Children and infants must be watched at all times.

  • Never let children use a hot tub spa unsupervised.
  • Infants must never under any circumstances be in water temperature over 38°C.

Pregnant women should always consult a physician.

  • Pregnant (or possibly pregnant) woman must speak with a physician before using a hot tub or spa. This is distinctly important because high body temperatures can cause fetal damage during the first few months of pregnancy.
  • If you think that you might be pregnant, or you are trying to become pregnant, talk to your doctor first, limit your time in the hot tub to 10 minutes or less, and keep the temperature no higher than 38°C.

Keep water sufficiently sanitized at all times.

Indoor hot tub installations must be installed in rooms with proper ventilation. If a room is improperly ventilated, vapors containing un-sanitized bacteria may fill the enclosed air space. The breathing in of vapors containing un-sanitized "mycobacterium avium" may cause a very uncommon infection known as "Hot Tub Lung." Fortunately, it's not contagious and is easily cured, but it can be avoided altogether by making sure that your hot tub is adequately sanitized.

Do not use a hot tub spa alone.

First and foremost, ThermoSpas wants you to enjoy the comfort and benefits of your hot tub in absolute safety. So, please make sure that there is always somebody else nearby when you are in your spa. Besides, it's a lot more fun to share your hot tub!
